Nikon’s newest D-SLR D7000 breaks the 12 million pixel barrier
Nikon’s newly introduced high-end D-SLR has broken through the 12 million-pixel barrier for the first time. The Nikon D7000 camera is fitted with the new DX format CMOS sensor, and offers a resolution of 16.2 million pixels powered by what Nikon claims is a processor 1.5 times faster than those used in the current DX range bodies. The D-SLR is set to run alongside the D90, rather than replacing it. A key feature of the new camera, is the metering sensor that is the most powerful in the range. Given a boost from 1005 pixels to 2016 pixels, this new RGB sensor is said to improve the camera’s ability to recognize scenes, especially the extra bright and dark sectors and to then apply a more accurate exposure recommendation. Despite increased pixel-count and file sizes, the Nikon D7000 will still be capable of recording bursts of up to 6fps in continuous shooting mode, with shutter speeds of up to 1/8000sec.
Nikon arrived at Photokina’10 with a whole new addition in its popular Coolpix range.
Nikon CoolpixS80
While the Coolpix S80 is characterized by its touch-screen organic LED display enabling fast and easy operation as well as wide viewing angle of nearly 180 degrees. The flat camera which easily slips into the pocket comes in black or red color and will retail at around 38K yen (US$440). The S80 is equipped with 1/2.3-inch 14.1MP (effective) CCD image sensor, 6.3-35mm (35-175mm equivalent) F3.6-4.8 5X zoom lens and oversized 3.50-inch touchscreen OLED monitor.
Nikon CoolpixS8100
The Coolpix S8100 is the successor to erstwhile S8000 and is fitted with 1/2.3-inch 12.1MP backlit CMOS image sensor that has maximum speed of ISO 3200. The S8100 is bundled in 3 colors of black, gold or red and features the CMOS image sensor, 5.4-54mm (30-300mm equivalent) F3.5-5.6 10-in-8 zoom lens sustained by mechanical (sensor-shift) image stabilization and 3-inch TFT LCD monitor.
Nikon Coolpix P7000
The Coolpix P7000 is the new flagship of the series which is tipped to succeed the P6000 with the control dial of analog feeling, equipped with sufficiently powerful sensor, newest image processing engine and high-performance lens. The P7000 is fitted with 1/1.7-inch 10MP (effective) CCD image sensor, Nikkor 6.0-42.6mm (28-200mm equivalent) F2.8-5.6 11-in-9 lens that focuses down to a minimum distance of 2cm in the macro mode, real-image optical viewfinder with diopter adjustment and 3-inch LCD monitor.
Nikon bolsters its lens family
AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G lens
Nikon is slated to add a third f/1.4 wide aperture lens to its optical line-up in less than a year, with the introduction of the new Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G moderate wide angle lens. Slated to feature a new optical design, this fast aperture lens will boost Nikon’s low light performance initiative, in line with the company’s concentration on reducing image noise in high ISO settings in D series SLRs. Nikon claims the Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G will have ‘amazing contrast and resolution’, and, with a nine bladed iris, will produce ‘super smooth bokeh’. Using a single aspherical element and the company’s Nano Crystal Coatings, Nikon hopes to reduce flare and the sagittal coma-type aberrations that wide aperture lenses can suffer from. The lens is likely to retail at £1699.99.
